Our Team

Meet the friendly faces behind our building projects below. They're highly qualified and perfect for the job!

Meet our team

Les O’Connell

Founder/Carpenter

From Olympic gold medalist to one of Christchurch’s top builders, Les tells his story from setting up his business in 1992 and why he’s still just as passionate today about the work he does at LOC Construction! We’re very grateful to have a leader like Les and appreciate his dedication to our clients and our staff

Tom O'Connell

General Manager/Carpenter

Tom joined his father in the business 10 years ago, hear him talk about the evolution of LOC, the importance of having a tight-knit team and what it’s like working with his father Les O’Connell.

Jarred Turnball

Foreman

Jarred started at LOC Construction as an apprentice in 2015 and has worked his way up through the company to become a well-organised and diligent foreman.

Jarred has a winning personality and the best smile.

Steve Van Beek

Carpenter

Steve came to LOC Construction in 2020 as a qualified builder with 15 years’ experience. Steve has cemented his position in the company as ‘the finisher’.

Steve is the quiet achiever in the team.

George Davie

Foreman

George started at LOC Construction in 2019 as a qualified builder with eight years’ experience and for the last 2 years has been leading a team as foreman. George has a great rapport with clients and subcontractors alike which keeps jobs ticking along.

George is our social club organiser and likes to keep the team upbeat.

Jake Rochford

4th year apprentice

Jake started with LOC Construction in 2019 as an apprentice straight from school. He made his mark in the team as hard working and quick to learn and is already a very competent builder.

Jake won the Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year in Canterbury which makes us very proud.

Jake has a very dry sense of humour enjoyed by the team.

Lachlan Baird

1st year apprentice

Lachie commenced at LOC Construction at the beginning of 2023 as an apprentice and has established himself with an exemplary work ethic and a willingness to take on any of the most physical jobs.

Lachie is easy-going but with a ‘heads down and working’ attitude.

Jordy McKerrcher

2nd year apprentice

Jordy started with LOC Construction mid 2023 with a couple of years of his apprenticeship already under his belt. He is adjusting to learning all about the architectural building style and showing plenty of promise as an addition to our apprenticeship team.

Jordy is keeping things low key so far…
